Plywood, also as fine core board in the trade, is a widely used material for making handmade furniture like plywood cabinet. It is by gluing and hot pressing three or more layers of one millimeter thick veneer or laminate. This thin sheet of plywood creates by cutting logs into veneers or squares and bonding them together with adhesives. Typically, an odd number of layers of veneer are using. And the adjacent layers glue in a perpendicular direction to each other. This results in plywood with three, five, seven, or other odd layers. Fishtail plywood, which is a type of metal plywood, also commonly employ on railway tracks and is sometimes known as road plywood.
Plywood has several advantages, such as being lightweight, strong, and having a beautiful texture. It also compensates for the natural defects of wood, such as knots, small width, deformation, and differences in mechanical properties. Additionally, plywood cabinets allows for a reasonable use of logs, as it produces more plywood per log compared to sawn panels. The leftover residue from plywood production can also use as raw material for other wood-based products.
Due to its small deformation, large width, ease of construction, and good tensile properties. Plywood is mainly using in furniture manufacturing and interior living decor. It also utilizes in residential construction, shipbuilding, car box manufacturing, and various other industrial sectors.
The production process of plywood involves cutting logs into thin veneers or planed sheets, which then glued together. The outermost veneer is the surface or panel board, while the inner layer refers to as the core or center panel.
One concern with plywood is the release of formaldehyde from the glue using in its production. It recommends to remove formaldehyde after renovation by mixing a formaldehyde solution in water.
Plywood cabinet offers several advantages, such as high hardness and resistance to deformation. It comes in different varieties about the number of layers, with three and five plywood commonly use in decoration. More layers in plywood result in greater thickness, strength, and load-bearing capacity. However, plywood is generally more expensive comparing to other materials. And may have issues with plate deformation if not sufficiently dry or due to production problems. It may not provide as smooth a surface as density boards. And may require additional decorative panels for added strength in certain applications.
In summary, plywood is a versatile material using in various industries due to its advantages such as light weight, high strength, and easy construction. While it has its limitations, it serves as an excellent choice for furniture manufacturing, interior decor, and decorative base structures.
